Bummer I liked the completion checks since I occasionally take breaks and come back and it was really handy to see where I had left off. I guess now I have to write it in a notebook or something. Please consider a way to bring it back. Otherwise I’m really liking the program. Thank you!October 27, 2013 at 1:48 am #7104
I agree, the completion checks were nice.October 27, 2013 at 2:10 pm #7109
Well humm-dee-dum! If we get a few more requests chiming in that they want the completion markers, we’ll bring it back. I really thought it was a useless feature, so we pulled it. I guess I was wrong.October 27, 2013 at 3:03 pm #7111
I’ve watched every one of the videos now but the completion checks are a nice feature for keeping track, now I have to work through all the interviews as wellOctober 27, 2013 at 3:28 pm #7112
@Sheesh – FYI, if you are pursuing certification, the requirement is only the permaculture lectures; not the sustainability interviews which are unrelated.October 27, 2013 at 6:00 pm #7116
I take breaks from the course for a few weeks at a time. I’m around half way thorough the videos now and had been using the completion flags religiously (but had to re-flag a lot because of that bug that was causing the flag to be reset). Then, after one of my “breaks”, the completion flag disappeared completely and, more confusingly, the sequencing of some of the course videos changed. I thought, “Well, I’ll still be OK…I was watching the videos sequentially and I’ve got good notes and I specifically wrote down the number and name of each course with my notes, so I should be able to figure out what videos I’ve watched or not, even if they are resequenced. THEN, I saw that many of the course video numbers (embedded in the name) had changed and even the text of the name had changed…sheesh…now my notes’ names and numbers didn’t match the videos at all and I wasn’t sure what I’d watched so far. PLUS it looks like some new videos were added in the middle of sections. Now I am having to go through each video sequentially, watch it a few minutes, determine if I’ve seen it before and try to see if it matches up to any of my notes…just to determine what videos I may have missed. It has gotten to be a real drudge and I still don’t have it straightened out. I saw in a previous post in this thread where you mentioned that the file name of the video had the “old” number, but as far as I can tell that file name does not show up anywhere on the screen when you view the video.
None of this is going to kill me and I definitely do appreciate that the courses are free and sort of in flux. But I think you should reconsider adding back that completion flag if, in the future, you are planning to re-sequence, renumber or rename any old videos or add any new videos to a section of the course again while folks are in the middle of taking the course. The completion flag could have been a life-saver for me if it had been working.
Again, don’t want to sound unappreciative or negative. I definitely appreciate the free course and appreciate your spreading the word on permaculture. I am enjoying it tremendously…especially Larry’s videos.October 27, 2013 at 6:21 pm #7117
Vlad, re my previous post, I finally found the “old” file number that you displayed in the video…it was right there in front of me..duh. That should help me get restarted and figure out my note re-sequencing of the videos again pronto…thanks!
But I still think you need that completion flag for the future…October 27, 2013 at 9:10 pm #7118
Chloe, I hear you. We knew that changing around the sequence was going to goof up people, but we also knew that the course didn’t quite make much sense the way it was ordered previously, and with so many new people signing up each day we had to do something. FYI, no new videos were added in the course itself – only the sustainability interviews.
The big question is that we’re about to film a ton of new content, so when we launch those lectures, we’re going to need to be more thoughtful about how to integrate them with existing content. The new lectures are intended to dramatically improve the quality of the course.
The completion flags weren’t working properly, and now that I am hearing from so many of you that you want them back, we’re going to poke around with the developers of our online platform to see how we can bring them back and actually have them working without failure. I’ll add that to our next site update list.October 28, 2013 at 8:05 am #7124
Thank you so much for the response. Once I wised up to where the “old” number of each video was located, it only took me around 30 minutes to cross reference everything and I’m on my way again. Doing that cross reference also helped me to see how you had reorganized the course and you guys did a really good job at that. In fact, I am considering re-viewing the videos of the whole Plants, Climates, and Soils section because I think that your new sequencing will add a lot to my comprehension of that section (plus it never hurts to re-watch these again…I always pick up something to add to my notes that I missed first time around).
So excited that you are filming new content!!! Best of luck on that! Thanks again.October 28, 2013 at 3:05 pm #7129
thanks Vladislav I wish I could afford the certification, or too travel to the states to do the courses. I have thoroughly enjoyed all the course video’s, and I’m simply perusing the interview videos for any more knowledge I can gain either on attitudes or technical information of projects in place. I intend to add the lessons I’ve learned to my other studies in architecture, construction, energy efficiency (and a whole load of other topics from botany to mechanics) in building a sustainable house and hopefully a permaculture garden to go with it. If I ever manage it I will be sure to share what I can for all the info you have sharedOctober 30, 2013 at 8:02 am #7150
I watched the first two videos and tried to watch lecture 3. It kicks me out and makes me try and re-register. ThanksOctober 30, 2013 at 9:21 am #7151
Lee, this is a browser issue with your computer. Please clear your cookies and cache; and try again. Also ensure that you are running the latest version of your web browser; this website requires it. We have tens of thousands of people in the course at this point, so I am pretty sure it’s something on your end – specifically your browser.November 4, 2013 at 9:31 am #7970
Is there a reason I can not find the videos through vimeo and they don’t show up in my account when I like them?
I prefer to watch on my TV, mainly because the audio is too hard to hear on many of the videos on my computer, some I can’t make out anything that is being said, but other than Larry’s introduction I can’t find the other video’s that way.
Thanks, DougNovember 4, 2013 at 9:42 am #7974
